Netflix Umbrella Academy
On October 1, 1989, seven extraordinary humans were born. Turning the big 3-0 twenty-six days before Yours Truly, the Umbrella Academy, consisting of the superhuman Hargreeves Kids has become a staple in my house. I loved Umbrella Academy S1 and I’m reading the comics awaiting S2.
Now, while it seems like they all have the same horoscope, being born on the same day, I’m here to tell you no, they do not. Since they were born in different places, their house positions are different, even if they all had the same time of birth. However, we only have one confirmed birth time and place, and that’s Vanya.
So in honor of the Hargreeves kids turning 30, I’ve drawn their chart. Well, Vanya’s anyway, since hers is the only accurate one I have:

Calculated with Cafe Astrology
Vanya Hargreeves is the youngest of the Hargreeves children, dubbed Number Seven by their distant and austere father, Reginald. She apparently was the only sibling without powers and grew up to write a memoir about her experiences being raised with the Umbrella Academy. However, she shared everything: the emotional distance and abuse she and her siblings experienced from Reginald, and the extra isolation from being the only powerless child. Most of her siblings rejected her after she wrote her memoir; they believed she shared too much about the family. When the series begins, we meet her as a violinist and violin instructor living alone in the city.
She was born with her sun at 8 degrees tropical Libra, right on top of her Mars, forming a strong square with Saturn in her twelfth house at 7 Capricorn conjunct her Neptune at 9 Capricorn, and her Jupiter at 9 Cancer in her sixth House (Fun fact: everyone born in October 1989, including Yours Truly, has a super-strong Saturn/Neptune conjunction strongly opposing Jupiter. Pin that; we’ll get to what it means later).
This aspect is what we call a T-square, a challenging aspect especially when the chart-holder is younger. It consists of two squares, challenges that keep coming up through the chart-holders life that must be addressed to grow, and an opposition, two planets that operate like water and oil – the energies can never mix, so the chart-holder has to find a balance between them. Together, the chart-holder double the challenges consisting of two opposing forces that they will have tremendous difficulty reconciling.
Vanya has five planets, half of her planets, involved in this T-square. Breaking down who the players are: Her Sun and Mars, her ego and sense of self, and her physical vitality and assertion, are in her psychic 8th house, in the middle of the fray. Her sun in Libra gives her a longing for balance and relationships. Her inner will is based on a desire for these relationships. Right on top of her Mars, this gives her powerful energy. However, Mars in Libra is weakened; her assertion is repressed until she reaches her “boiling point” (as we see in the show). With both her sun and her Mars in the eighth, it points to powerful psychic abilities and a feeling of isolation from them, especially with Saturn squaring her Sun/Mars conjunction.
Saturn and Neptune in the 12th house are conjunct in Capricorn, and they get along…. Interestingly. Well-aspected, this Saturn-Neptune conjunction can give the chart-holder great business acumen when it comes to the arts, especially since here, they’re both in Capricorn so Saturn, Cap’s ruling planet, is in charge. However, the 12th House is Neptune’s domain, and that’s where Saturn and Neptune live in Vanya’s chart.
Saturn points to the Father Wound, and for Vanya, that was Reginald Hargreeves. Cold, distant, and unfeeling, no wonder you find Vanya’s “father planet” is in the 12th house of isolation and secrecy. 12H Saturn people often long for compassion and understanding in their youth but can’t find it. They may feel isolated from their family and peers. Part of their life’s mission is to learn to love themselves first and not try to find it in seeking approval form others. Neptune in the 12th can also point to imprisonment, which can describe Vanya’s childhood, isolated from other children her age besides her siblings.
Jupiter on the other side in her 6th house in Cancer, suggests loving figures in her home. That certainly would have been “Mom.” Opposing Saturn, it also signifies the love she has for her siblings versus the isolation she feels from them. With Mercury in Virgo ruling her sixth house, it’s a signifier of her being the “discloser,” of her coming to terms with the emotional isolation and abuse she faced as a child by divulging her experiences to the world. It also signifies mundane, everyday talents; even though any musical ability is an incredible gift, it does pale in comparison to actual superpowers.
Venus also aids her in her music ability. Although it’s in her ninth house, it’s conjunct her midheaven, the highest point in her chart that affects career and public image. Venus’ domain is music, and Venus in Scorpio gives passion and intensity to Vanya in this area of her life. Her Mercury, that we previously mentioned, also gives her a way with words and the loquaciousness to write and book in the first place (if I were Vanya’s astrologer, I’d advise her to start composing her own songs as well).
Vanya’s rising sign is Capricorn, giving her a serious, ambitious personality. Ruled by Saturn in her 12th, how she carries herself is strongly affected by her father wound and her isolated childhood.
And what about the other Hargreeves children? While their planets are in the same signs, since they were born in different parts of the world, they will most certainly have different rising signs and their planets will be in different houses. For example, I hypothesized that Klaus, Number 4, was born in Berlin at the same time. While he also has his sun in his 8th house, his rising sign is Aquarius (an incredible fit for the eccentric, unique Klaus).
The similarities with Vanya’s chart are the T-square (in different houses, though), the powerful energy they have with Sun Conjunct Mars. If anyone can find me info on the other Hargreeves kids’ times and places of birth, that would be awesome! Until then, Happy 30 Umbrella Academy!
