The Planets This Week: 9/16

At the beginning of the week, Mercury and Venus will move together into Tropical Libra. Mercury, who is supercharged in Virgo (he’s in rulership and exaltation there) will step down and Venus will take the reins of the conjunction, since she moves into rulership in Libra.

Mercury does OK in Libra; after all, it’s an air sign, signifying communication and logic, Mercury’s domains. However, Mercury is less practical and more flowery in Libra. Communication will be less effective, but more diplomatic and eloquent. Conjunct Venus, I’d say this is a great time to do some creative writing.

Venus rules two planets: Taurus and Libra. In Taurus, it’s more natural and concerned with the environment. It convenes with everyday beauty. In Libra, it’s more cerebral. Think of Venus in Taurus as a beautiful rose, and Venus in Libra as an eloquent poem about a rose, or a luscious painting of a rose. It’s still beautiful, but more constructed, manmade. Again, this is a great time to create.

However, the moon in Aries opposes the conjunction early in the week; everyone can expect some impatience and relationship conflicts around Monday! Why? Aries is the sign of the self and Libra is the sign of partnerships. With planets in opposition here, it’s highlighting your needs vs. your partner’s needs. In a relationship? Not necessarily, but since the moon and Venus are the most feminine planets, fights between women are more impelled right now. This is specifically impacting people with planets in early cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). On the flip side, if you have planets at the start of other air and fire signs (Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius), you could face an emotional, communicative boost early this week.

Then, the moon goes into Taurus (in exaltation and ruled by Venus), creating a quincunx between the Sun and Venus – two energies interacting that have little to do with each other. It also conjuncts Uranus, the planet of innovation, retrograde in early Taurus. Venus really takes charge here, so it’s a great time to explore beauty and passion, especially the Bulls and Librans out here. With Uranus retrograde, it’s a good time to brainstorm and plan for the big, creative ideas that may be flowing at this time. Journal. Sketch. However, watch out for creative roadblocks and some frustration. Uranus hates being in Taurus (it’s fallen), but the moon there can help boost creative energy and natural inspiration.

More good news: the moon is trining Saturn once he finally goes direct in the middle of Capricorn. As I covered the last couple blogs, Saturn going direct is finishing dishing out Karma and moving ahead with new cycles and boundaries. The moon trining Saturn on the 19th is going to give us a great emotional release and we can breathe a sign of relief knowing the past is in the past (even if it’s not right away, you will eventually breathe a sign of relief with whatever is happening for you this week). This aspect especially affects people with planets in the middle of the feminine signs (earth and water signs).

When the moon trines Mercury/Libra in Gemini near the end of the week however, it’s a great time to repair those fights and frustrations that came out earlier in the week. This entire week is a wonderful time to write, but it really comes out when the moon is in Gemini, trining Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, and Venus, planet of the arts in its own sign Libra.

As the week draws to a close, and the sun enters Libra, the Mercury/Venus conjunction that’s been happening for a couple weeks will weaken as Mercury pulls ahead, so please don’t sit on those ideas! Write them out. Also, weigh your needs while considering the needs of others – it may save you from sleeping on the couch this week!
