The Planets This Week 10/7

As we grind through the middle of October, Pluto has gone direct, unleashing Karmic issues that had been building since it went retrograde last April. At the beginning of next week, Pluto is playing another big role: he’s one of the planets in the T-square created by the Sun in the middle of Libra and the full moon in the middle of Aries. The nodes will also be conjuncting and opposing both Saturn and Pluto this week, with the South node on them. Again, the nodes are highlighting tradition, with the South Node in Capricorn and the North Node in the sign of home and family, Cancer.

At the beginning of the week, the sun is squaring Saturn and the moon in Capricorn. This is a challenging aspect for everyone, but like the full moon at the end of the week, it’s hitting people with planets in the middle of Cardinal signs the hardest. By the end of the week, the sun will square Pluto later in Capricorn during the full moon in Aries, affecting people with planets near the end of cardinal signs.

Fixed signs will also be affected this week, as Venus skips into Scorpio, joining Mercury in opposing Uranus in early Taurus. For people with planets in early fixed signs, the latter is already affecting your chart and will for the next couple years. However, Venus is igniting it, adding energy when it comes to relationships. Speaking of Mercury, he’s entering his shadow period this weekend, starting the retrograde process. This week is the last chance to start new endeavors before retrograde season begins to hit.

Back to Pluto. He’s a generational planet since he only changes sign every 13-30 years. He stays in Libra the shortest and Aries the longest and takes 240 years to orbit the sun and transit through every sign. He’s the planet of transformation, highlighting which changes each generation will face and grow through with his sign, and what environments individuals in each generation will encounter their generational struggle in.

For example, my Pluto is in Scorpio. Technically, it’s in my 11th house, but it’s right on my 12th house cusp. That means I’m a Millennial. My generation’s struggle deals with the transformation of transformation itself. Everything changed through our lives: technology, careers, the economy, relationships, and the root of that changed happened with we were born, from 1984 to 1997, especially with the advent of the internet. On an individual level, I encounter this change the most in social groups, particularly social media; I also experience it subconsciously.

Now, Pluto is in Capricorn, affecting career, government, and the world order. It will be there until it trudges on into Aquarius in the mid-2020s. At the end of the week, it will be the middle of a T-square with the sun and the moon, a challenging aspect where an opposition (with the sun and moon involved in the opposition, it points to battles between our will and emotion) squares a planet in the middle, creating a T-shape.

This T-shape is also an isosceles triangle, the strongest shape out there, and for that reason, it’s frequently used to build things. In a natal chart, the T-square creates a difficult early life that the holder is impelled to overcome. In their later years, people with T-squares are often powerful and successful due to the hardships they’ve had to overcome in life; they used their challenges to build themselves an empire if they’ve persevered and haven’t given up. That’s why I tell my clients with this aspect that it’s a T for tenacity. Sure, it gives you a difficult early life, but it also gives you the willpower to rise above and build a good life for yourself. The how depends on you and your planetary placements.

In transit, we’re up for some difficult, challenging, but transformative energy. With Pluto having just gone direct, karma is being dished out and with this strong aspect in the sky, we’re finally seeing it manifest. This week will be a build-up, so be on the lookout for changes in the air when it comes to work, relationships, or beginning new endeavors.
