Work in progress by me – Chakra mural
Crochet can be very meditative. Repeating your hand movements, concentrating only on the stitch you’re working on, it’s a great opportunity to clear your head, reflect, and become more mindful.
In short, it’s a great opportunity to do some chakra work.
Lately, I’ve been trying to get into chakra cleansing. I haven’t been feeling 100%, so I’m working through the areas in my life that need some TLC. Crochet is helping, so is drawing.
A great exercise I’ve found is to sit with a project in hand, and as you add stitches, or chain, or turn, clear your mind and focus on your energy. Where is it free-flowing? Where is it blocked? As you work, concentrate on the blockages. If you’re not too familiar with chakras, you can just picture the energy through you going up from the base of your spine through the top of your head and back down again. Breathe in, feel the energy flow up, breathe out, feel it flow down again.
If you’re more familiar with chakras, you probably know about each chakra and which blockages mean what. You can incorporate chants and visualizations into your crochet/meditation time If you want to learn, you can find a helpful guide here on meditation or here on chakra meanings.
Certain colors and shapes are linked with each chakra, so you can use any of these elements in pattern-making or crocheting an object. You can design chakra-based patterns yourself with this quick, handy guide:
Root Chakra: Deep red, squares
Sacral Chakra: Orange, crescent moon, hexagons
Solar Plexus: Yellow, triangle, nonagons/grams (9-sided shape or star)
Heart: Green, hexagons/hexagrams and dodecagons/grams (12-sided shape or star)
Throat: Blue (light blue is best, or turquoise), triangles and circles, 16-side shape or star
Third-eye: indigo or deep blue, ovals and triangles (like an eye)
Crown: Purple, pink, white, circles and lotuses, full moon
Use any of the elements you wish to create a chakra-inspired piece to help you meditate through blocked or under/overactive chakras. It’s not an overnight thing, it’s something you have to work at day-in, and day-out (sort of like crochet). Happy hooking, and blessed be!
